An Oklahoma City truck dealership with more than 30 years in business cannot locate qualified employees.

Transportation Resources, Inc. sells new and refurbished heavy-duty trucks to consumers around the world. “We’re the ones who do it full-time in Oklahoma and sell trucks all over the country,” said owner Allen Eng.

The company also manufactures and manufactures spare parts for trucks. “We sold spare parts in South Africa and Australia,” Eng said. We’ve been selling trucks in Asia. “Despite his worldwide success, his workshop is as noisy as he’d like, as he says he struggles to find technicians to paint his diesel trucks. “It’s not a glamorous job, you can get dirty doing it,” Eng said. I guess a lot of other people just don’t need to. “

So, he has a yard full of used trucks and only four technicians to work on them. “I currently have sales in process going to Indiana and Texas that weren’t completed last year because we didn’t get the trucks done,” he said. “We struggle, we work nine, 10-hour days, sometimes longer. There are times when my service manager and I both end up in the shop working because we don’t have enough people to do the job.”

Eng says he’d like to hire five more workers. We presented initial packages of $70,000 plus benefits,” he said.

Still, searches on task forums rarely yield results. “It’s hard for me to understand, but there are other people who would rather be unemployed than paint and we’ve met some of them,” he said.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, this company is not the one that suffers to fill jobs. Therefore, many of them turn to industrial schools. In fact, Eng said that working with local vocational schools like the Francis Tuttle Technology Center helped him and allowed him to track down Jaden Hedrick. “It’s been a smart learning experience,” Hedrick said.

Hedrick joined the team full time after graduating. “I like feeling like I can pay attention to the details with them,” he said of racing in the trucks. “I need to focus on making the truck as productive as possible and making it look as productive as possible. ”

Eng said that as he continues to search for the best employee, he hopes more people will sign up for the field. “A smart painting ethic, the willingness to paint and not being afraid to get our hands dirty, we can do it. “successful,” Eng said.
