NEW YORK (AP) – The New York Police Department said 303 branch cars had been vandalized since George Floyd’s death on May 25, causing damage of approximately $1 million.
The branch said Monday that 14 cars were a total loss due to the damage of the fireplace, seven are still in repair and the rest are back in service.
Several others were arrested at the start of the riots for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at police cars in Brooklyn. These instances are still filed in Federal Court.
In the most recent incident, Saturday night in Manhattan, a guy was seen on video as a protest sign to hit the window of a parked police van while another guy sprays graffiti on an adjacent police van.
A total of three cars were damaged, police said. None of them were busy and no injuries were reported.
The first nights of protests in the city were marked by robberies, riots and violence inflicted by the police and the police.
Since then, protests from Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis and other cases of police misconduct have been largely non-violent, however, there have been outbreaks.
Last week, cops with insurrection equipment cleared a month-long camp outside New York City Hall, days after the New York police leader and several other officials were injured when anti-police protesters clashed on the Brooklyn Bridge.
