A North Kingstown man is behind bars after an extensive investigation into a double hit-and-run on Quaker Lane.

Warwick police have arrested the alleged driver of the vehicle suspected of being involved in Sunday night’s (July 28) fatal incident.

According to Warwick Police Captain Charles A. Boisseau of the Community Services Division, on Thursday, August 1, members of the Warwick Police Service, assisted by North Kingstown Police, arrested Dannys L. de Jesús Marcano, 24, north of Kingstown. .

Warwick detectives discovered the vehicle they said “was involved in Sunday’s fatal hit-and-run,” according to the news release issued through Warwick police.

Marcano was charged with one count of failure to stop accidents involving death and one count of failure to stop accidents involving serious bodily injury. The suspect was in custody for his arraignment, scheduled for 9 a. m. on Friday, August 2, at the Noel Court Complex, 222 Quaker Lane, not far from the scene of the original crash.

Two pedestrians were struck by cars in minutes on Quaker Lane in Warwick on Sunday night. A 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene; A 26-year-old woman taken to hospital with serious injuries after the fatal hit-and-run.

Police said a woman first hit a pedestrian and stopped to check on him. When she was pulled from her vehicle, she and the first victim were struck by a passing vehicle, according to initial reports at the scene.

Warwick police identified the slain man as Nicholas Cote, 44, of Warwick. Police said Côté “was on foot, in the right lane heading south. “

The first motorist and the other hit-and-run victim were known as Logan Barboza, 26, of West Warwick. Barboza was transported to “Rhode Island Hospital with serious physical injuries,” according to Warwick police.

“As he walked outside to check on him, a dark-colored pickup truck, described as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, struck Barboza causing serious physical injuries and ran over Cote, resulting in fatal injuries,” according to Warwick police. “The Jeep then continued south on Quaker Lane and stopped.   »

The fatal incidents occurred outside 709 Quaker Lane in Warwick around 9:39 p. m. on Sunday, July 28.

Upon arrival, police “located two victims in the travel lane onto Highway 2 South,” according to police.

“A witness remained at the scene and delivered a written statement to investigators,” police said in aArray. “Initial findings imply that the woman was heading south on Quaker Lane when her vehicle struck a pedestrian in the southbound right lane. When she went outside to check on her, a dark-colored pickup truck, described as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, ran over the woman causing serious physical injuries and ran over the pedestrian causing fatal injuries. The Jeep then continued south on Quaker Lane without stopping.

The Warwick Police Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing the investigation.
