Norris to stay at McLaren beyond 2025

McLaren have announced that Lando Norris has extended his contract with them so that the driver will remain with them after 2025.

Norris joined McLaren as a junior in 2017 and has held a full-time role with the team since his F1 debut in 2019 and amid a contract that would see him stay with the team until 2025.

However, the British driver has been the subject of much speculation about his long-term course, with rumours that groups such as Red Bull and Ferrari were interested in him. But all this has already been settled with the new multi-year extension signed.

“It’s a great feeling to be staying in papaya,” Norris said. “I’ve grown up with McLaren and feel at home here, the team are like family to me. The journey so far has been exciting, we’ve had ups and downs, but last season showed our desire to get back to competing at the front of the grid. 

“The paints that Zak [Brown], Andrea [Stella] and the whole team have done over the last year have been and I’m confident in the fight for victory with McLaren. I’m excited to create more amazing memories and will continue to work hard with everyone at MTC for years to come. “

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown added: “I am very pleased that we will continue our relationship with Lando for many years to come. It’s been an adventure for the past six years, and he’s been shown commitment and preference to move the team forward and get McLaren back to the front of the grid.

“Last season we saw the pivotal role played by Lando with the impressive turnaround of results and I look forward to continuing this momentum with many more podiums. “

Norris’ teammate, Oscar Piastri, signed his own contract extension, to the end of 2026, last year which will see McLaren stick with the same line-up for at least the next three seasons.

“I am pleased to see the extension of our partnership with Lando on a multi-year contract beyond 2025,” said McLaren team principal Andrea Stella. “This reflects the commitment and buy-in we have together, as well as our shared ambition. win championships in the future.

“Lando has grown as a driving force and as a user since joining McLaren in 2017. He was an inspiration last season, playing a vital role in our progress throughout the year, achieving seven podiums and many fantastic races.

“Alongside Oscar, our exciting driver pairing will play an instrumental part in our objective to move towards the front of the grid. They have impressed in their first season together and I’m looking forward to continuing the hard work with them both on this exciting journey.”
