That is not seen very often, however Nissan has agreed to postpone the closure of its plants in Barcelona, Spain, for a year.
Production facilities were originally scheduled to close until the end of this year, however, Nissan recently said it was willing to postpone this to give the government more time to locate a customer for the plants. After 30 hours of negotiations with the unions, Nissan guaranteed that there would be no mass layoffs until December 2021, when the siege will be closed.
After discussions, production at the factories will resume at the end of August. Nissan in the Barcelona complex has been on strike since early May, weeks before the Japanese automaker announced the resolution of closing the factories as a component of a global exchange plan.

The car manufacturer has announced a voluntary early retirement and exit plan for workers in Barcelona. “We consider this to be the most productive solution for all parties, as it saves more time to look for reindrialization projects, and if they do not materialize, it exits situations well above the legally set ceilings,” said Frank Torres, Nissan’s leading negotiator. quoted through Reuters as saying.
For now, there is no new information on potential companies interested in the plants. Petrochemicals giant Ineos has shown interest in the site to build the Grenadier SUV but has since said that Daimler’s Smart factory in France is a more attractive prospect.
