Nissan Chairman and CEO Makoto Uchida has been awarded a CBE for its business relationship in the UK and Japan.
Nissan established its UK production facility in Sunderland in 1984 and its operations began in 1986. It has become the largest factory in the history of the British automotive industry.
Uchida said: “I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to be honoured by His Majesty King Charles III. The relationship between Nissan and the UK began 40 years ago and is still very strong today.
“The honour of this award goes to our Nissan employees around the world and in the UK, where Nissan is proud to design, manufacture and build vehicles. I thank you for all your efforts and for inspiring us with your determination and innovation.
In 2023, Uchida joined the Sunderland team and announced that three long-lasting Nissan electric vehicles would be manufactured in the UK (the Nissan LEAF, the electric versions of the Nissan Qashqai and the Nissan Juke).
Nissan has 7,000 workers in the UK.
