Nissan 370Z 2019: a distilled car

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Nissan gave us some very clever news. In May, the automaker presented our first vision of the new generation Of Nissan Z, called 400Z.

Since then, the lips are tight on the automaker, who has been busy with the revelation of the electric SUV Ariya, which looks very beautiful. However, Ivan Espinosa, vice president of global product strategy, had some things to say about a Car Advice report last Thursday.

The executive has recommended that a hybrid or any type of electrification is probably not as likely for the next Z, at least not immediately. Instead, Nissan will stick to the “conventional” generation or do so in the internal combustion engine for now. Rumor has it that a twin-turbo V6 taken from Infiniti or Frontier’s new V6 engine can position it in the new sports car. A variant of Nismo can debut with 500 horses.

This is not to say that Nissan discards an electrified Z in the future. If Nissan is looking for something electric, Espinosa said a hybrid would be the way to experiment with generation first and for all all all completely electric. He said he personally believed there was “room for two things,” like room for anything classic and something more experimental. Nissan declined to comment further on the next sports car for this story.

Whatever it is, it probably won’t happen soon. The executive presses that battery generation is not where a suitable sports car should be delivered. Weight and load remain the main disruption for automakers when it comes to high-performance vehicles.

The news of all this is that we intend to temporarily technify the beginnings of the new Z. We know Nissan will have 12 new cars in the next year and a half, and the Z is one of them. It remains to be noted if we will see the Z at the beginning of the 18-month period.
