One of the UAW’s big deals has been saving the Belvidere, Illinois, plant that built the Jeep Cherokee before Stellantis discontinued that model and shut down the plant earlier this year. It’s moving on to getting back in business and generating an entirely new midsize truck. which could simply be the Ram Rampage we’ve seen camouflaged in Michigan. The contract calls for the production of between 80,000 and 100,000 pickup trucks.

Toledo Assembly will build the existing Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator through 2028, with upgrades to the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) editions in 2025. In 2028, we’ll see a next-generation edition of the Wrangler, adding the PHEV. and range (extended models) and, although not all the main features have been given, it is an electric vehicle with a small petrol engine to keep everything running once the stored battery charge is depleted.

The existing Ram 1500, built at the Warren Truck and Sterling Heights plants in Michigan, will continue through 2024 with a mid-cycle upgrade, but will be joined in 2024 via a 100 percent electric version, which we’ve already noted as a concept, as well as an extended-range version. Introduced as a sub-brand for 2022, officially called “Wagoneer via Jeep,” Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will continue in 2028, but with an update in 2025 and again in 2027. We’ll also see a battery-only edition until 2027. On the heels of an extended-range style expected in 2025.

The existing Dodge Durango remains until 2025, while its two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee cousin remains the same through 2027, and the existing three-row edition through 2028; both Jeep styles will receive an update in 2024. But batteries are coming, with the next-generation Durango arriving in 2026 with an internal combustion engine and all-electric propulsion; and the Grand Cherokee will be redesigned with all-new, similar, electric, gas-powered styling in 2027.

Now, those are all just product commitments for now, part of the deal Stellantis has with the UAW, but this will most likely all continue once the contract is finalized. The union said investments in those and other cars The media also mention a battery factory valued at $3. 2 billion, which will be built in collaboration with an as-yet-unknown component and open in 2028.
