New Volvo FE chargers in London

Recycling and waste control company Powerday has added two Volvo FE electric chargers to its fleet. The London-based manufacturer will use the cars in the city and in the south-east. After a successful year-round trial, manufacturers are expected to save around 30 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The equipment is supplied with a Hyva tipper frame and is driven via an electric power take-off.

Edward Crossan, CEO of Powerday, said: “In line with our net-zero emissions roadmap, the adoption of those electric chargers in our fleet shows our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to cleaner air and environment in London. By making a commitment to our investment in electric tippers, we are paving the way for cleaner and greener solutions.

Ideal for work environments in the city centre, the FE Electric has a range of around 190 km and has four batteries. To help those two vehicles, Powerday installed a 150 kW DC charger at its Willesden Junction site, which was added to the trial period. Skiploaders will recharge in 2. 3 hours.

The FEs have full air suspension and a lower passenger door window to improve direct vision. Safety features include electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control with automatic emergency braking and lane keeping alerts.

Powerday has opted for a Volvo Gold contract for repair and maintenance needs. This covers proactive battery tracking and ensures that related parts are up and running and replaced or repaired before anything causes unplanned downtime. The chargers will be painted five days a week.
