New historic rally to welcome UK motorsport fans

British rally enthusiasts will have little by 2020 to see rally cars in action at the end of October at the first historic rally festival.

The historic Telford-based rally on Sunday 25 October will be the first British car rally to be allowed to admit spectators for more than seven months when it takes place at the 1,000-acre Weston Park in Shropshire.

It will innovate by being the first multi-site demo rally to take a position under a Motorsport UK license.

The occasion will be open to spectators, either for the 8 special occasions at Weston Park on Sunday and for technical checks prior to the occasion, and then for the service domain near Telford Town Park.

Admission to Weston Park will be via advance price ticket only and there is general spectator capacity for the occasion due to COVID-19 restrictions.

A box of 80 cars will participate, spanning 50 years of rally from 1960 to 2009.

Unlike other demo events, Historic Rally Festival will hold special stages complete with drivers and co-drivers with helmets and jumpsuits, there will be no timing or results.

Event promoter Warner Lewis said: “We have all worked hard to make this happen and it will happen.

“There will be no tickets for this day, we will have to buy them in advance.

“The public reaction has been very clever so far. Now we are deciding on the cars we have to participate in and plan to start 80 cars. “

Alex Harris of Telford and Wrekin Council demonstrated that the occasion has that of the local authority, despite the demanding situations of the COVID pandemic. “

We are pleased to work with the organizers to see how we can grow the event,” Harris said, “and fully recognize that motorsport can bring to the region.
