WASHINGTON – Fifteen states today announced a one-time deal for 0-emission trucks. These plans adhere to California leadership. Last June, the California Air Resources Board passed the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule, which requires every new truck sold in California to have 0 emissions through 2045.
The Inter-State Memorandum of Understanding sets targets for full electrification of medium and heavy cars through 2050, adding primary platforms, transit buses and delivery trucks. They also set an intermediate sales target of 30% of zero-emission trucks through 2030 for truck manufacturers.
Morgan Folger, Clean Cars manager for Environment America, issued the following statement:
“No package delivered through a diesel truck has dirty air, asthma and climate change. It’s time to go beyond the old thinking tactics and evolve into a blank environment with trucks that don’t pollute. Clean electric trucks can leave the air blank and assist the worst effects of climate change. This is the delivery we’re all waiting for. This plan will play a key role in achieving this goal. We commend interested states for paving the way for zero-emission electric trucks to block our roads. »»
Matt Casale, director of the shipment for the U.S. PIRG, issued the following statement:
“Going to school or going to the paintings does not come with a daily dose of poisonous contaminants or increases the threat of disease. The commitment of these states to one hundred percent of school buses and zero-emission public transport, as well as other heavy and medium trucks, will help reduce destructive pollutants for the lungs and save lives. The faster we have more buses and electric trucks on the road, the healthier our youth and communities will be.
