In his first major league soccer opening, Nashville SC winger Alan Winn played the national anthem Saturday at MAPFRE Stadium Columbus Crew SC.
A photo taken through The Columbus Dispatch shows Winn among the remaining players. Up to 1,500 enthusiasts were able to attend the game in Columbus, Ohio.
The rest of Nashville and the team’s players knelt down to hear the anthem, a recurring action that MLS players have undertaken since the league played again in July for the MLS Is Back tournament in Orlando.
Winn appeared at the league restart for Nashville on Saturday. The 24-year-old appeared to be a replacement for the club’s debut in MLS on Feb. 29 against Atlanta United. The winger played 28 minutes on Feb. September in a 4-2 win. over Atlanta at Nissan Stadium.
On August 12, enthusiasts at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas booed the Nashville and FC Dallas players as the 22 starting players knelt the anthem. It was the first game for both clubs since March, after both withdrew from the MLS Is Back tournament. to the respective COVID-19 outbreaks.
