– The new mini-futures in OMXS30 will offer liquid and available contracts at the maximum benchmark negotiated in the Nordic region
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, September 3, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Nasdaq (Nasdaq: NDAQ) today announced that future Mini OMXS30s, which provide greater accessibility to the indexed futures market for all investors, will be traded today.founded on OMXS30, the first European nasdaq index to contain the top 30 shares traded on Nasdaq Stockholm, adding corporations such as Volvo, Investor, Ericsson and AstraZeneca.
The new contracts cover the entire long term of the OMXS30 index, one of the highest indexed investment products traded in Europe.Mini-long-term contracts have a theoretical price of one-tenth of the duration of the OMXS301 long-term contract.
“A well-functioning futures market gives investors the ability to manage threats and gain advantages from all market scenarios. At Nordnet we are working hard to democratize savings and this is a wonderful example of how we, this time with the Nasdaq, are reducing industry barriers,” said Martin Ringberg, Country Manager Sweden at Nordnet.
“The addition of mini-futures to OMXS30 will provide market participants with an even more cost-effective way to reach the maximum actively traded benchmark in the Nordic region,” said Alessandro Romani, Nasdaq’s Director of European Derivatives.”The new Mini OMXS30 Futures products will offer more opportunities for investors to manage threats while increasing liquidity.”
Launched in 1986 as a long-term contract, the long-term negotiation of OMXS30 has grown steadily and reached a record in March 2020 with more than 7.7 million contracts negotiated that month.
The OMXS30 Index was also the first global benchmark to download an ESG-compliant version, the OMXS30 ESG Responsible Index, in June 2018. Futures based on the ESG Index were introduced in October of the same year, and since then more than 2.1 million contracts have been exchanged.
In order to inform investors of the opportunities and dangers related to derivatives trading, Nasdaq recently introduced a derivatives education program in partnership with OptionsPlay. The program will be offered to all Nordic personal investors.
Future Mini OMXS30s are available for trading on the Stockholm Nasdaq.
1 minimum investment is approximately EUR 1 (10 SEK) times that of the index (currently around 1790)
