PETALING JAYA: Muda has asked for less than 15 parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections (GE15) from its electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
This is according to Muda’s vice president, Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, who said representatives would meet with PH in the coming days to finalize the seats.
“Positive discussions.
“I can say that 70% (of the seat allocation) is finished, while the rest are overlapping seats,” he told media at PKR headquarters here.
Amira, who won Puteri Wangsa’s seat in the Johor election last March, also said Muda had not asked to contest seats in the past held by PH representatives.
In the past it was reported that Muda had accepted the 3 positions of the PH for its electoral pact, adding that of the party for the PH candidate for prime minister.
The other two situations are that no one would call to compete for the seats occupied by their respective holders, and that Muda would have to download the permission of the PH presidential council if it wanted to agree with other parties.
Following the dissolution of parliament on 10 October, PH President Anwar Ibrahim reportedly said the coalition only envisages an electoral pact with Muda for GE15 rather than admitting it as a component party.
He said it would be complicated because such a resolution would have to be passed through the Registry of Corporations.
In a note, Amira suggested police reclassify their investigation into the riots at a Muda event last night, as they were assaults.
Last night, a dinner hosted by Muda at Dewan Yong Shen in Muar turned sour when 30 other people threw water bottles and firecrackers into the crowd.
In the wake of the incident, some people, Sabah Muda leader Amos Thien, suffered minor burns to his legs after being hit by firecrackers.
Earlier in the day, Johor police leader Kamarul Zaman Mamat, said the government was investigating the case under the 2012 Peaceful Assembly Law (PAA).
“This should not be investigated under the PAA as the incident is an assault.
“There were injuries and damage to property. Some other people are still affected by the incident,” he said.
