“Move us to AIIMS or JIPMER”: AIIMS Madurai doctors organize a protest against insufficient infrastructure

Explaining the situation, the doctor commented on some other X post: “The answer is that AIIMS Madurai has a transient campus where 3 batches of MBBS reside. And its students go on to the GMC ramanathpuram school where they examine in the “name of Aiims Madurai”. And that’s not the case. ” I don’t have any amenities because the GMC fellows are already there and the occupancy rate is not enough. “

“So the thing is, it’s been four years and in the Aiims Madurai admission call, other people have to take exams in a public school while the label is still Aiims!Isn’t that in itself? Does this mean Aiims = GMC?” he asked, adding, “Not only their studies, but they will graduate as per the call of Aiims Madurai, while their school will remain GMC ramanathpuram. “

The Medical Dialogues team had indicated in the past that the institute is expected to be completed by 2028, and that its structure will not begin until December 2023 and the tender for the structure was also launched. Earlier this year, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed with the Madras High Court, highlighting the long delay in the structure of the AIIMS Madurai and taking note of the issue, the D-Bench. Krishnakumar and Vijayakumar of the HC issued reviews on the case.

The Union Cabinet approved the status quo of AIIMS facilities in Thoppur under the Thirupparankundram Assembly constituency in Madurai district in 2018. Therefore, the allocation was approved under Pradhan Mantri Sthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) for a charge of Rs 1. 9 billion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of AIIMS in Madurai during his stopover in the district in January 2019. Despite the laying of the foundation stone in 2019, the artwork at the institute has not begun. However, the management of AIIMS had invited academic programs. aspiring to take MBBS courses.

The state government, as a transitional measure, has ceded the entire fifth piece of land for the construction of the new Faculty of Medicine and Government Hospital in Ramanathapuram for the exclusive use of AIIMS academics. Therefore, the courses have been ongoing for 3 years. There are about 50 students in class.

In January, the AIIMS administration, according to announcements, had requested programs from landowners to provide space for AIIMS scholars in Madurai, preferably near the upcoming Thoppur site. However, academics said the reaction in this regard has been poor. The academics further added that they had no idea that they had been transferred to the Madurai facility.

Video of academics complaining about the lack of critical infrastructure has been circulating on social media lately. In the video, the academics are seen claiming that they don’t even have the fundamental amenities, such as good enough security. According to academics, they also face massive upheavals due to language barriers.

They also expressed fears that they would not get a passing grade on their exams for protesting the upheavals faced by the institute’s academics. They wonder why no one cares that medical scholars don’t get a proper education. They also asked if the Minister of Health was in a position to be treated through the academics of AIIMS Madurai. In the video, the academics were observed to have symptoms that read, “Transfer us to other AIIMS or JIPMER. “

Sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter), one user wrote, “Looks like a BIG SCAM. AIIMS Madurai according to JP Nadda is 95% complete. “But on the ground, it’s just a piece of barren land with walls. MBBS Academics Forced to Work at Local Hospital, Qualified on Behalf of AIIM – When promoting Ramdev-type Quackers, who wants smart doctors?

“The status of AIIMS Madurai is similar to that of AIIMS Darbhanga. It works without buildings or infrastructure. The government has deceived academics for more than three years,” the user noted.

Raising the issue, a doctor wrote: “Modi lied to those young people, upon being admitted to AIIMS Madurai, that he does not exist physically. The stopgap measure was to place these young people in state medical schools near Tennessee. “

Meanwhile, commenting on the matter, a senior AIIMS official told The Hindu in Madurai that they are taking steps to make the transition go smoothly. Although things were temporarily suspended due to the Lok Sabha elections, academics would be briefed on progress in about a month. .

In response to questions about the unavailability of services for the workshops, officials told the Daily that arrangements have been made with the government hospital Ramanathapuram Medical College.
