Man arrested after SWAT in Crawford-Roberts

Police and SWAT were on the scene Wednesday in Pittsburgh’s Crawford-Roberts community looking for a man who had barricaded himself in a residence.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said a SWAT team parked near Protector Place and Wylie Avenue at 7:45 p. m. They said they won several calls about a gunman who had fired shots. The guy fled to a nearby space and barricaded himself inside.

Public Safety said nearby citizens were evacuated when police tried to contact the man. The man was arrested without incident shortly after 8:30 p. m.

Medics at the scene examined a woman and two children inside the home and they were injured, Public Safety officials said.

Sharpsburg man accused of leading state police in high-speed chase

A police traffic stop took place Tuesday morning when a Sharpsburg man led state police on a high-speed chase through several Allegheny County towns.

Police said the chase began in O’Hara Township, continued through Aspinwall, Sharpsburg and ended in Pittsburgh.

State police said Hermas Craddock, 57, was under the influence of drugs while driving recklessly without a valid driver’s license. According to the offender’s complaint, he reached speeds of up to 80 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone, drove on sidewalks and ignored several red lights and prevention signs.

Craddock noticed a Jeep Wagoneer with Tennessee license plates weaving in and out of the lanes of Route 28 in O’Hara Township shortly after 11 a. m. , according to the complaint.

He was on his way to Aspinwall when the police officer tried to pull him over in a parking lot near Freeport Road. Police said Craddock stepped on the gas, up curb after curb and made a U-turn toward Sharpsburg.

During the chase, officials said Craddock nearly crashed his vehicle into two patrol cars and saw a gun thrown out the window of his vehicle in Sharpsburg.

After arriving in Pittsburgh, Craddock stopped at Harriet Tubman Terrace, where his uncle lives. Police said he was discovered inside the apartment, sitting on the couch, where he was arrested. After his uncle told police that Craddock was in the bathroom and bedroom before officers arrived. , said they discovered a bag of marijuana in her purse as well as two firearms, cartridges and magazines in the apartment’s bedroom.

Craddock faces several charges, including assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana, and driving with a valid driver’s license.

Police make an arrest in March.

Pittsburgh police made an arrest on March 31 downtown.

Dimareja Edelen, 24, arrested and charged with robbery and robbery by unlawful kidnapping.

Police said Edelen allegedly paid for an item at Dollar General Express on Wood Street, then jumped over the counter, got into a fight with the vendor and stole coins from the open coin register. Police said the worker was not injured in the incident.

Edelen is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

My Pier is going to reopen

The Mon Wharf parking lot in downtown Pittsburgh will reopen to the public Thursday after suffering heavy flooding for a week.

The Pittsburgh Parking Authority closed the parking lot early last week after record rainfall hit the city. It remained closed for a cleaning period. The Parking Authority said Wood Street and Stanwix Street would be open.

William Penn Elementary School closed after water service outage

Bethel Park School District Superintendent James Walsh sent an email to parents Wednesday night informing them that it would be canceled at William Penn Elementary School on Thursday due to a water service outage.

Students attend school on a user basis or participate in distance learning.

The school’s housekeeping and maintenance crews, as well as a plumbing contractor, are recently on-site to address the situation, Walsh said in the email.

“We also recognize that the scenario will be difficult for some families to manage in such a short period of time, however, the protection and well-being of our students and staff will be our most sensible priority,” Walsh said in the email.

The facility will reopen once water service is restored.

Washington Crown Center Mall to Reopen

After 3 days of closure, the Washington Crown Center mall announced on social media that it would reopen at a. m. on Thursday.

The mall has been closed since Monday due to a water break.
