Morgan Hill Sisters Killed in Crash on Highway 152 Identified

GILROY, Calif. (KION-TV) — Two Morgan Hill sisters were killed Tuesday morning in a crash on Highway 152.

The Santa Clara County coroner’s office identified the two victims as seven-year-old Elisa Ornelas and four-year-old Valentina Ornelas.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened Friday morning on Highway 152, just west of Lake Road, when a 25-year-old man was driving a Tesla and looking to pass a slow-moving tractor while driving in the lane.

Officers said that the Tesla crashed into an on-coming car which set off a chain reaction.

Investigators said the Tesla continued and crashed into the Dodge the Ornelas sisters were driving inside the vehicle.

The CHP said a total of five vehicles were involved in the crash. Investigators said Elisa Ornelas died at the scene of the crash while her sister Valentina died at the hospital.

A one-year-old boy was also in the Dodge vehicle and was taken to the hospital. The CHP said either parent survived the crash.

CHP Hollister-Gilroy said there were fatal crashes on Highway 152 in 2023.

Officer Michael Sakamoto said that the road is getting busier and it could be the reason more deadly crashes are happening in the area.

“What’s happened in this surrounding domain is an influx of housing and an increase in the number of travelers,” Sakamoto said.

Ornelas’ family spoke to KTVU and said the women love the outdoors.

A monument has been erected at the site of the accident. The circle of relatives set up a GoFundMe page.

The twist of fate is still under investigation and it is not known if drugs or alcohol were involved in the twist of fate.
