Toyota Recalls Certain 2013-2018 Model Year Vehicles
Toyota is recalling more than 1. 8 million RAV4s due to a fire risk similar to that of some replacement batteries, the company said Wednesday.
Toyota is recalling more than 1. 8 million RAV4s, the company announced Wednesday.
Specifically, it involves recalling certain vehicles from the 2013 to 2018 design years.
The problem lies in the risk of fire when replacing some batteries, Toyota said in a statement. Since some of the SUV’s replacement batteries aren’t properly dimensioned, it’s possible that they will simply detach and ignite a fire if the car takes a sharp turn.
“Some 12-volt replacement batteries of the specified length for the affected cars have smaller dimensions than others. If a small length battery is used for replacement and the clamp is not properly tightened, the battery may simply move when the vehicle is running. Driven with a lot of life in the corners,” said Toyota. The movement can cause the positive terminal of the battery to come into contact with the clamp and cause a short circuit. “

Toyota said it is working on a solution that would upgrade the battery clamp, battery holder and terminal canopy at no cost to owners. They will be informed in December.
Toyota said other people with affected cars can enter the vehicle data number or license plate data into Toyota or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to make recalls.
