NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
It’s the jaw-dropping moment when a Tesla driver at high speed and under the influence of cannabis crashed into a car with a family of five on a busy road.
Josselin Herjean, 51, ploughed his £50,000 car into the back of a white BMW carrying Kirsty Skinner, who had just given birth, three of her children and her partner.
Dashcam footage shows Herjean, Exchange’s IT manager, swerving at top speed from the middle lane into the outside lane before hitting the rear of the BMW.
The BMW was driven to the central concrete reservoir, thrown into the air, before continuing down the road, amid a cloud of smoke.
Incredibly, no one was injured in the twist of fate and the couple’s newborn is still in the hospital.
But relatives said in a statement that they were “traumatized. “
The Crown Court in Southampton heard that Mrs Skinner had had a caesarean section and when they were beaten, she clung to it and shouted “my babies”.
Eleanor Randall, a nurse who witnessed the accident, told the court that Herjean had shown “no compassion” towards her family and that when she went to check on him, he “threw the clothes” out of his vehicle.
The court heard that Herjean was in the midst of a psychotic episode due to the strain of running in a “high-pressure” environment.
At a hearing where the video was shown, a judge said it was a “small miracle” that no one was injured in the collision.
The twist of fate occurred in October last year, when Herjean and his family, which included children aged five, three and one, were travelling on the M17 in Southampton, Hants.
Adrian Fleming then told the court: “[Mrs. Randall] saw a red Tesla overtaking a vehicle at a very high speed; She estimated it at over a hundred miles an hour. “
According to Randall, the BMW, “traveling at about 70 miles per hour,” began performing a “completely general passing maneuver” into the fourth lane of the freeway.
Fleming continued, “What happened next was that the Tesla, still traveling at a clearly higher speed than the maximum speed, went off without caution and erratically into lane four. “
It then hit the BMW in the rear.
“The car jumped forward, then hit the median and the rear of the car was thrown into the air. “
Randall said that when he told Herjean that he had gone “over a hundred miles an hour,” “he just shrugged. “
He went to see the family, the court heard.
In a reading of the victim in court, Skinner’s partner, Jamie Swinfield, said their newborn daughter “could have been orphaned without a problem” and that the effect of the twist of fate made her feel as if she had been “punched in the head. “
He added: ‘This incident has traumatised me and my family. I felt like I had nearly lost my family. I look at my three kids when putting them to bed and get upset.’
Police tested Herjean at the scene and the results were negative to alcohol but positive to cannabis.
At the police station, he did give her a blood sample.
Herjean, of Hamble, Hants, pleaded guilty to driving impaired and failing to provide a sample for analysis.
He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for one year and banned from driving for 18 months.
He was also ordered to carry out 130 hours of unpaid work, carry out 15 days of rehabilitation activity requirements, and pay £425 in court costs.
