It’s a little strange when an automaker publishes its own espionage plans for camouflaged cars to be tested in the wild. But in the case of Mercedes-Benz, the German manufacturer is very happy to see that the progression of the new SL-class roadster is underway.
Mercedes released a series of images on Thursday that give us our first genuine look at the next generation of SL. Prototypes are still in progression and the company is still publishing details. For now, Mercedes-Benz only says that the SL is in its “new phase of dynamic in-depth verification, after extensive virtual progression, verification bank verification and simulator verification”.
Mercedes’ AMG functionality arm manages the progression of the new SL, which makes sense because we’ve heard that the new roadster will only be featured in Mercedes-AMG functionality variants. A variety of comfortable hybrid thrusters will be available, perhaps the 3.0-litre Mercedes EQ-Boost I6 or its new 4.0-litre twin-engine V8. A plug-in hybrid is also common.
Unlike the most sensitive, low-profile SL in existence, the next-generation roadster deserves to use a more comfortable and comfortable seat and offer 4 seats instead of two. The SL also deserves to be smaller and lighter than it is now, dividing the difference between the 2020 style and the nearly gone missing SLC-class roadster.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed any kind of launch schedule for the new SL, but since the roadster is still in development, we expect to see it until 2022 at the earliest.
