Mercedes launches ambitious new electric vehicle to rival BMW and Audi: provides 800 MILES with just 20 minutes of charging

MERCEDES has unveiled an ambitious new vehicle to compete with the BM2 Gran Coupé series and the Audi A3 sedan.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA travels 1,270 km with just two 10-minute charging stops.

While they are a good fit for BMW and Audi, both have lower and more costs than the CLA.

However, the new CLA’s heavy 85 kWh battery and 800 V electrical architecture allow it to operate at lightning speed.

It can “add three hundred kilometers in 10 minutes,” Mercedes says.

At the facilities of the technical center in Nardo, in southern Italy, the CLA traveled a total of 2,309 miles in 24 hours.

Over the course of 24 hours, it charged “40 times” for “10 minutes,” revealed Timo Stegmaier, senior director of the CLA’s electric powertrain.

However, as the car maintained a top average speed this time, it did not make it to its WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) qualified range of 466 miles.

Under general conditions, it is most likely to travel the indicated 186 miles in 10 minutes.

The four-door coupe also features a brilliant array of interior technologies.

Some of its technical highlights include active lane assist, active brake assist and a parking system that helps the driver park in and out of forward and reverse spaces.

It also has a number of interior amenities, such as a forced-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function.

Plus a keyless-go package which enables users to open or lock their vehicle by simply pressing the door handle.

It features a hands-free feature that allows users to open the trunk lid by executing a motion with their foot under the bumper.

The driver and passenger can also enjoy thermometric automatic climate control, which allows them to measure temperatures independently.

Another comfort highlight is the seat package, which allows users to find a personal and ergonomic setting.

At the rear of the vehicle, side airbags protect the passengers’ chest in the event of a violent side impact.

Finally, the CLA has two notable suspension features, such as suspension with adaptive damping and Dynamic Select.

The adaptive damping suspension allows the user between maximum agility and maximum damping comfort.

While Dynamic Select offers other driving modes that are engine, transmission, suspension and guide settings.

The exterior of the car features a new front design with a forward-slanting front end and a redesigned front apron and power domes on the bonnet.

Also included is a new grille with a three-dimensional Mercedes-Benz pattern.

A panoramic sunroof supplies users with further brightness and a greater sense of space.

Each of the car’s 4 doors is frameless, and the coupe’s roof design emphasizes a sleek, sporty appearance.

The athletic theme continues toward the rear of the car with a new diffuser look and new LED rear lamps.

And finally, to show off its individual look, the CLA boasts new 19 inch light-alloy wheels that are aerodynamically optimised.

The CLA is expected to arrive later in 2025, but Mercedes says the MMA multi-fuel platform will see the CLA introduced with a hybrid powertrain in 2026.
