MIAMI (AP) — Lando Norris says he knows his first Formula One victory is only a matter of time, and he’s never shared the doubts of his harshest critics.
Norris won at the Miami circuit out of Hard Rock Stadium, his first win in 110 starts.
Before Sunday, he held the unenviable record for the most podiums per victory.
The Englishman has long been regarded as one of the sport’s most exciting talents, but until Sunday he had failed to turn it into a victory.

When asked if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, Norris replied: “As much as I need to say no, it’s a yes!To get that first win is incredible. Of course, I had moments when I came close, and he never managed to turn it into a win.
“But I wasn’t worried. Even though a lot of people doubted that I could succeed and win a race, I wasn’t worried. “
He added: “I dream of those days. You never know when they’re going to get to you, but that was today. Even though my brain was going crazy, I was thinking about a lot of things, I was also calm. “Sometimes it’s a little lonely and it’s great to reflect on everything you’ve done to get to this point.
Norris arrived at the Miami Grand Prix answering questions about the cut he suffered on his nose at a King’s Day birthday party in Amsterdam.
The McLaren driver joked that he had planned a party to celebrate his first win and said he hoped to repeat the British Grand Prix later this year.
“I’m going to sleep,” he said of his plans Sunday night. “I’m going to go all the way!
“Maybe tomorrow I’ll get more than just a scratch on my nose. . . I’m hopeful that [the debut] will be at Silverstone, but I’ll try to do it there as well. “
