Mazda may show off the Miata’s long life at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show

Mazda will use the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show later this month to show off a concept car that could give insight into the automaker’s long-term direction for the MX-5 Miata sports car.

The Miata will be at the center of Mazda’s booth, the automaker said. As a result, a variety of Miata models will be on display, adding an updated edition of the existing fourth-generation model.

There will also be a mysterious concept car rumored to sign off on Mazda’s goal of launching an electric or electrified Miata in the future. Mazda has hinted in the past at the electrification of its upcoming MX-5 Miata and has insisted that it will try to remain a lightweight, affordable two-seater sports car with a sunroof.

Mazda released a teaser photo of the concept and describes the vehicle as a symbol of a “future created through the love of cars. “Mazda said the theme was selected to show its enduring commitment to creating cars that meet the desires of consumers who love to drive.

The teaser photo doesn’t reveal much, however, the shape of the taillights resembles that of the taillights of the first and second generation of the MX-5 Miata.

The Tokyo Motor Show opens its doors to the public on October 25. Mazda will also use the exhibit to unveil a prototype of the MX-5 Miata that can be controlled through the driver with just their hands.
