Tony Harrington has been presented as the referee for West Ham United’s 2024/25 Premier League opener at home to Aston Villa at the weekend.

The 40-year-old will be the man in the Hammers’ clash at the London Stadium on Saturday, August 17.  

Harrington, one of the most recent and sensible referees, who was promoted to the No. 1 organisation in the 2021/22 season, will blow the whistle for his second game at West Ham. The first was our 2-1 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in April. This year.

Harrington refereed his first Premier League match in December 2021 and has refereed 19 top-flight matches in total.

The Hartlepool referee has extensive experience in the EFL Championship, having refereed 189 second division matches in the 2013/14 campaign and two Wembley finals in the week-long area in May 2021.

He first refereed the FA Trophy final between Hereford and Hornchurch, then returned for Blackpool’s EFL League Two play-off final victory over Lincoln City.

Scott Ledger and Mat Wilkes will act as assistant referees at the London Stadium.

The duo are made up of experienced Premier League officials. Ledger managed two Hammers games in the season, leading the line in the 2-1 win at Luton Town in September and the 5-0 defeat at Fulham in December.

Meanwhile, Wilkes, who has performed as an assistant at the festival more than 150 times, will be appointed as an assistant for the 21st time at West Ham’s matches at all festivals.

Saturday’s fourth official is Andrew Kitchen.   The Durham-born official has never refereed a Premier League match, but he spent two years in the National League before being promoted to the Select Group 2 (SG2) referee list, which basically deals with league matches. Oxford United’s 2-0 win over Norwich City last weekend in the EFL Championship.  

Finally, the day-to-day work of the video assistant referee will be overseen by John Brooks, who took part in 22 Premier League matches as the head referee last season.
