What is it? The Trofeo is the premium petrol edition of Maserati’s new GranTurismo. The first visitor will arrive here in July.
How much does it cost? Pricing starts with the GT Modena at $375,000, while the Trofeo, as shown here, costs $450,000. In any case, this is in addition to the prices and options for the road. This internal combustion coupe (ICE) will be followed by the GranTurismo Folgore. , the company’s first battery-electric model. In addition, a new convertible variant, the “GranCabriolet”, was announced in Italy this month.
The Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo is powered by a twin-turbo Nettuno V6 and handles beautifully.
What makes it work? An edition of Maserati’s Nettuno twin-turbo V6, introduced in 2020 with the MC20 supercar. In Modena, this 3-litre engine develops 365 kW and six hundred Nm. In the Trofeo, the maximum values are 410 kW and 650 Nm. Result: 100 km/h in 3. 5 seconds and 200 in 11. 4 seconds, while the most sensible speed is 320 km/h. It’s a fast machine.
Why would you need it? For its looks, a sumptuous leather-lined interior, dazzling performance, and a loud roar. Sure, the roar is rarely as loud as the previous model’s V8, but the Nettuno V6 performs better in most cases. It has more power, a step up efficiency, less weight and faster response. The Nettuno’s maximum productivity design places all of the engine’s weight in the front axle line (making the car front/mid-engined) and leaves room for the first all-wheel-drive formula in a GranTurismo. It rides very well with large inner tubes and handles beautifully, with maximum torque commonly sent to the rear, unless extra grip is needed.

Why not? Some might think it looks too much like the car it replaces (despite the new platform, body, and transmission). Others would possibly prefer the upcoming Folgore EV, which is also expected to be available on GranCabriolet. And frankly, the wholesale coupe market rarely goes back to what it used to be. Sporty SUVs have taken their market by storm.
And in conclusion, a stunning reinvention of the best-selling Maserati coupe of all time. The sports car market doesn’t necessarily conform to the logic of the broader market. In the coming years, we’ll find out if those who opt for the ICE GranTurismo are content with yesterday’s novelties or if they’ve discovered a collector’s car sought after for its personality, totally different from the almost silent electric cars.
NB: You drove this car in Europe as a guest of the manufacturer.
