Maserati is unveiling a track edition of its MC20 supercar. It is known as MCXtrema and 62 examples will be manufactured.
The car was first unveiled last summer at Monterey Car Week 2023. Lately, final track testing is underway before deliveries begin at the end of the summer.
The MCXtrema will not be street legal. It’s being developed exclusively as a track toy (it also doesn’t comply with any racing regulations) and Maserati plans to offer long-term homeowners a diversity of elements built around the vehicle, adding driving training courses and track experiences. , logistical support, and more. It will be part of a program known as MCXperience.
Maserati will also offer a customization program called MCXlusiva, which will allow owners to make their car stand out. There will be set features for owners, as well as a custom option that Maserati calls Beastspoke. It will allow owners to have their own race number as well as some of the accessory colors of the cabin.
The MCXtrema features a carbon fiber frame wrapped around the same carbon tank developed by Dallara as the MC20, but complemented by an FIA-homologated roll cage. The engine is the same 3. 0-liter twin-turbo V6 as the MC20, but tuned here to deliver 730 hp of the MC20’s 621 hp. The new turbos were the main improvement, according to Maserati.
Other features include a 6-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters, adjustable aerodynamic suspension, lightweight Lexan windows, Brembo brakes, and 18-inch forged wheels with center lockout.
Maserati’s customization subsidiary Fuoriserie manages production. In the future, the subsidiary will possibly produce more low-volume cars, adding single cars on order. The MCXtrema is meant to serve as an example of what can be imagined in Fuoriserie.
The MCXtrema is rarely the first time Maserati has introduced a track-exclusive supercar. The company’s previous MC12 supercar also had a track version. It was called the MC12 Versione Corse and only 12 examples were built.
