As promised today, Maserati officially unveiled its third all-electric model, the GranCabrio Folgore, on the occasion of “Folgore Day” in Rimini, Italy. We were present at the launch of the new Maserati convertible, with 3 all-electric motors. and performance.
As mentioned above, Array Maserati is celebrating 110 years in the automotive industry with a BEV-centric occasion called Folgore Day. Earlier in Rimini, Italy, we saw the key parts and customization features of Maserati’s first two all-electric models: the GranTurismo Folgore and the Grecale Folgore.
We were also able to see the TRIDENTE, Maserati’s first all-electric daytime boat, built with Vita Power. While today’s events were interesting, they only led to the beginning of the night with the launch of the Folgore GranCabriolet.
We got our first glimpse (camouflaged) of the convertible GranCabrio Folgore in October 2022, when Maserati tested the all-electric prototype on the streets of Modena, near its headquarters in northern Italy. At the time, Maserati announced that the GranCabrio Folgore would be unveiled in 2023. However, the new convertible has experienced delays throughout the Grecale Folgore and is making plans for an ultra-luxurious Folgore Quattroporte.
While the Quattroporte stands out for the time being, the all-electric Grecale SUV is making its way into the market and will soon be followed by the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore. Following today’s launch event, we learned a lot more about what Trident consumers can expect to see and feel in this new all-electric convertible.
Like its GranTurismo sibling, the GranCabrio is based on Maserati’s exclusive Atlantis 800V architecture, which was built using a blank table technique introduced in 2017. It houses a 92. 5 kWh battery (83 kWh usable) that can reach charging speeds of up to 270 kW in a vehicle. DC Fast Qualifier, which recovers one hundred km (62 miles) in five minutes and replenishes from a 20-80% speed state in 18 minutes.
This battery provides consumers with an all-electric WLTP of between 419 and 447 km (260 and 278 miles), depending on the BEV driving mode they use: Max Range, GT, Sport and Corsa.
It’s not the most productive drive on the market, but this new all-electric convertible isn’t designed for long road trips with the family. It’s a three-engine convertible and it’s incredibly fast. The permanent 3,300 kW magnetic radial motors are blended to produce 560 kW of peak force (610 kW with MaxBoost), delivering 1,350 Nm (996 lb-ft) of torque.
The engines in the Maserati GranCabrio Folpassre offer a top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph), but this speed is limited by the computer. It could happen faster if the engineers allowed it. The sleek convertible can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2. 8 seconds, but loses some straight-line power and goes from 0 to 200 km/h in 9. 1 seconds.
The AWD powertrain is torque-vectored with a double-wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link air suspension at the rear with damping that maximizes downforce and driving dynamics.
The aforementioned Corsa mode allows drivers of the GranCabrio Folgore to harness the convertible’s full 800V power, giving the throttle a more direct sense of instant torque, best for cornering maneuvers. Corsa mode features critical in-dash diagnostics such as battery temperature and torque distribution. .
Speaking of the dashboard, the GranCabrio Folgore is as sumptuous as it is fast. Accommodating up to 4 people, the convertible showcases Maserati’s design philosophy of “Balance of Opposites” that pits timeless luxury against the newest technology.
The “sports car” setup incorporates added “real materials” to give a dynamic yet emotional feel that is soft and comfortable. Being a convertible vehicle, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is supplied with neck covers that blow directly from the seats. as well as an optional windbreaker that can be stowed in the trunk of the front seats when there are no rear passengers (who needs all that extra weight in the back anyway?)
The comfortable canvas roof is available in five other colours and can be opened and closed in 14 and 16 seconds respectively. It activates at the touch of a button on the center demonstration panel at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph).
The exterior features Maserati’s new vertical lighting fixtures seen on the halo MC20 car (combustion version) and a 3D-illuminated trident logo on the grille. The rear features full LED boomerang-type lighting fixtures first seen on the GranTurismo Folgore and a larger, staggered wheel configuration. at the rear (21″ 295/30) and smaller at the front (20″ 265/35).
Maserati says the new 2025 Folgore GranCabrio will open orders in August, followed by an official start of sales in the fourth quarter of 2024. We haven’t been given the exact price yet, but we expect the BEV to charge more than $200,000.
Based on its on-paper specifications and a close look at today’s Italy, the GranCabrio Folgore looks like a fast-to-drive convertible. We look forward to this in advance and will be sure to document our experience when it happens. In the meantime, Chiao !
