After a hundred years, Maserati adjusts the gears. The remarkable Italian logo unveiled its first electric car on Thursday and introduced its green program.
The Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is a new riff buzzing in the vintage sports sedan that was first presented to the public as a concept at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2013. Now it’s a reality, the style of the next generation has undergone a small facelift and is supplied with a hybrid powertrain.
The configuration includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine combined with a 48-volt alternator and a small rear-mounted battery. Together, this produces 330 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, freeing up the Ghibli hybrid from 0 to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds and allowing you to succeed at a more sensitive speed of 158 mph.
While its gasoline predecessor had only 345 horsepower thanks to its 3.0-liter twin-engine V6, Ghibli 2.0 promises to be more fuel efficient and larger for Earth. In fact, it will emit 25% less CO2 than its counterpart and is also 176 pounds lighter. Still, the automaker has made sure the car has that remarkable roar of Maserati.
Looks-wise, it’s not a drastic departure from the OG Ghibli, but it feels fresher. The rear end features revamped, boomerang-shape taillights inspired by the 3200 GT and Alfieri concept, while the front received an updated grille and new headlights.
Maserati chose blue to make up its eco-friendly electric cars, and the tone is discovered in the external accents, adding air ducts, brake stirrups and rear mounting. The color is also used indoors where blue seams are juxtaposed with black leather embellishments.
The infotainment formula has also been revised. The screen length has grown to 10.1 inches and now works with The new operational formula of Android Automotive. Old-fashioned analog indicators have been replaced through completely virtual alternatives.
The Ghibli Hybrid may not be the boldest electric vehicle design on the market, however, it is a major milestone for Maserati, which heralds the future of the brand. Next year, the car manufacturer plans to deliver two new electric vehicles, the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio. The MC20 sports car is also expected to deyet later this year and is likely to come with hybrid and electric variants.
Unfortunately, we won’t see the Maserati Ghibli hybrid in the United States, however, production is expected to start at the time of this year and succeed in other markets until the end of the year. And who knows, if the style is very successful in Europe, the United States will have its own edition one day.
