NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Martin Keown considers Liverpool “favourites” to win the Premier League ahead of rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.
Arsenal moved to the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Luton Town on Wednesday night, but Liverpool will return to the top if they beat Sheffield United tomorrow.
Defending champions Manchester City remain firmly in the race for the name and are just one point behind Arsenal after tonight’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
Liverpool are looking to win the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield but face the Manchester City festival looking for the first team in history to win four consecutive league titles in England.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are hoping to end a 20-year wait for a Premier League title, having finished runners-up last year.
“Manchester City can win each and every game, but that doesn’t mean they will be champions because Liverpool have the points,” Gunners legend Keown told TNT Sports.
“If you look at Liverpool’s games, I think they’re better. The Manchester United game on Sunday is huge, if they win it would tell the players that they can be Premier League champions.
“When you look at their games, it’s a tough game for them and they’re going to need revenge for the FA Cup game.
“I think Liverpool, with those two points over Arsenal, makes them favourites. “
Keown gave his verdict on the Premier League name race before Arsenal won 2-0 at relegation battlers Luton.
Hatters captain Tom Lockyer, who collapsed in a game against Bournemouth in December, alongside Keown as part of TNT Sports’ team of experts.
“Everything will go down to the last moment, right?” Lockyer said when asked his opinion on the three-way name race.
“What I think Liverpool and Arsenal will be concerned about is that we know Manchester City can go through and win every single game, they’ve shown that year in and year out. Will they do it this year? I’m not sure. “
