UNION, Union – A 29-year-old Maplewood man was killed in a twist of fate on Interstate 78 in the early hours of Wednesday.
Kadeem Buckham was killed when the BMW he was driving east on I-78 near milemarker 52.6 struck the rear of a Volvo tractor-trailer, which was also traveling eastbound on the highway, at 3:04 a.m., State Police Sgt. Philip Curry said.
Both cars hit the chimney after impact, Curry said.
A passenger in the BMW, Tamu Waluye, 28, of Maplewood, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Curry said.

The driving force of the semitrailer was not injured.
All east lanes were closed for about 4 hours, Curry said.
