Man shot dead, stolen from Silver Falls State Park Trail

A man was shot dead in an alleged carjacking at the start of a trail at Silver Falls State Park on Wednesday night.

Soldiers and emergency crews were called to the north parking lot of the trail to inform a user who fired after 10 p.m., according to the Oregon State Police.

The victim, Billy Gardner, a 23-year-old Portland man, was transferred to Salem Hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound and discharged.

After an investigation, let’s say an unidentified suspect stole a silver Ford Fusion with Oregon 383 MAX license plate and drove north on Highway 214.

Officials are asking with incident data to call the Oregon State Police North Command Center at 1-800-442-0776, or the OSP if calling from a mobile phone, and see the case: SP20-205764.

Oregon State Police received assistance through the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Silverton Police Department, Drakes Crossing Fire Department and Woodburn Ambulance.
