MAN plans to manufacture hydrogen-powered vehicles from 2025

MAN plans to deliver its hTGX hydrogen-powered truck next year. Initially, about two hundred games are expected to be delivered to consumers in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland and some non-European countries.

Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Board of Management of MAN Truck

“We expect to be more productive in meeting the vast majority of our customers’ shipping schedules with battery-powered trucks. For special programs, hydrogen combustion or, in the future, mobile fuel generation is a suitable addition. The H45 hydrogen combustion engine is based on the D38 diesel engine shown and is produced at the Nuremberg Engine and Battery Plant. The use of well-known technologies allows us to enter the market at an early level and thus provides a decisive impetus for the growth of hydrogen. infrastructure. With the hTGX, we have now added a hot product to our zero-emission portfolio. “

The hTGX will first be available in 6×2 and 6×4 configurations with a maximum distance of six hundred kilometres. The H45 engine develops 520 hp and 2,500 Nm of torque between 900 and 1,300 rpm. The hydrogen will be stored in a 56 kg tank. tank at a pressure of 700 bar, providing refueling times of less than 15 minutes.

Dr. Frederik Zohm, member of the R&D board of directors, said: “The new CO2 regulation in Europe will classify trucks with hydrogen combustion engines as zero-emission cars. This means that these cars fully contribute to our CO2 fleet targets, which also opens the door to this small series that complements battery electric cars. At the same time, depending on the country, our consumers benefit from corresponding reductions in tolls, for example.

“At MAN’s headquarters in Nuremberg, we have state-of-the-art engines and decades of experience in the use of hydrogen as a fuel. We use it and with the MAN hTGX we offer a real MAN. The new hydrogen combustion truck based on the tried-and-tested TG series is founded and impresses with its no-nonsense top quality and undeniable maintenance. We will continue our studies on mobile fuel generation based on battery generation and hydrogen. MAN is also working on the generation of H2 fuel. However, it will be several years before the generation is truly market-ready and competitive. “
