Man Arrested for Robbery Leading to Baltimore Partial Construction Collapse That Killed One Person

Police arrested a man accused of stealing a car and then crashing into a construction in East Baltimore, causing him to collapse and kill one user while injuring five others, CBS Baltimore reported.

On Friday, police charged Shawn Lee Brunson, 33, with car theft, CBS Baltimore reported. Police said fees were pending.

Police said the crash happened shortly after nine p. m. , after an allegedly stolen car took off “at full speed” as officers approached.

The car struck the vehicle near an intersection, sending them to a sidewalk and into the building, causing them to collapse.

A pedestrian known as Alfred Fincher, 54, emerged from the rubble but was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The injured were taken to hospital, police said. His status is unknown.

First responders said if survivors were inside any of the vehicles when construction collapsed.

A special rescue team rushed to the crash site to stabilize construction and continue the recovery process, according to the local firefighters’ union.

At least five doctors were also sent to the site, the union said.

In addition, investigators from the Baltimore Police Team were dispatched to authorities.

“We’re going to take a look at all the cameras placed in the frame and any other video to see what happened that caused the vehicle to take off and cause this accident,” Baltimore Police Assistant Richard Worley told reporters.
