Partnership Leverages Luminar’s Technology to Enable the World’s Safest Safety Car. A vision of the Official FIA F1® Safety car, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, will be on display at CES 2024 in Luminar’s booth (West Hall 5917).
LAS VEGAS, January 09, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Leading global automotive technology company Luminar and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team today announced a new strategic collaboration that will leverage Luminar’s existing development work with Mercedes-Benz to integrate Luminar’s technology into the Official FIA F1® Safety Car with that work beginning in 2024.
LiDAR, which stands for Light and Detection Range, uses lasers to create a highly detailed three-dimensional map of the surrounding environment. Luminar’s LiDAR, in combination with its artificial intelligence software, uniquely enables accurate object detection at higher speeds and in harsh driving conditions. Luminar’s generation is built from the point of the chip and at a superior wavelength that allows it to see road debris at a distance of up to 250 meters and objects at a distance of up to 500 meters.
The ability to trip over moving and desk-tethered items at high speeds and in a wide variety of situations makes Luminar’s LiDAR a complement to the official FIA F1® safety car. Luminar and Mercedes-AMG will work together to integrate Luminar technology into the roofline. of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.
