Lion Electric Co. , a manufacturer of all-electric medium and heavy-duty vehicles, has produced its first zero-emission LionC bus at its U. S. plant in Joliet, Illinois.
“This is a milestone for the entire Lion control team. Au, I want to express my gratitude to all our workers for their hobby and commitment over the past few months, as we have gone from being an empty shell in a construction site here in Joliet, to manufacturing our first American-made product: zero-emission school buses in about 18 months,” says Eric Pansegrau, general manager of the Lion’s Joliet production plant.
“We are excited to now enter the acceleration phase of production, with an initial focus on the all-electric LionC school bus. We will spare no effort to gradually increase manufacturing, which will be distributed in the coming quarters.
Lion has used the experience and wisdom gained from the production of the LionC at its Saint-Jérôme site over the past seven years to produce the first unit at the Joliet location. Lion will concentrate first on producing all-electric school buses on its Joliet. site, with production gradually increasing from the fourth quarter of 2022. The Joliet plant is expected to have a production capacity of up to 20,000 fully electric buses and trucks, after the installation of the truck line and after the final touch of the acceleration of production and intensification of production operations.
