Lexus UX Hybrid Road Test Three Hundred

The 2025 Lexus UX 300h is a snappy, smart compact luxury crossover minus the squareness the Lexus badge is sometimes notorious for. While the UX 300h’s performance isn’t explosive, the vehicle proved its mettle during a recent weeklong test including 100 miles in a snowstorm, followed by temps in the low teens.

There’s a new hybrid powertrain that’ll increase your total output to 196 horsepower, up from the previous 181 horsepower. The vehicle also features a new hybrid transaxle and a lightweight lithium-ion battery, contributing to its increased power output and improved efficiency. A new exterior color, Copper Crest, too, has been added to the palette.

The base value of the Lexus UX 300h is $46,375, or $49,545 with all features and shipping.

The car’s chassis is its most productive asset. It’s small enough to get where you want to be in traffic, but big enough to make you feel really wide when driving. The iconic trapezoidal grille dominates the front, framed by angular LED headlights and built-in running lights for hours of sunlight, giving it a bit of spacey cuteness. Every time I walked out of a store and saw the UX, I considered it my car.

It’s sumptuous but overwhelming, with dual-zone climate control, eight-way forced front seats and 60/40-split folding rear seats. The infotainment formula includes an 8-inch or optional 12. 3-inch touchscreen.

NuLuxe synthetic leather upholstery is available in several color options and the dashboard includes soft-touch fabrics and metallic trim. Cargo capacity is approximately 17. 1 cubic feet in the rear seats. It’s comfortable but not pampering.

You’re powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with two electric motors and you’ll go from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 7.9 feeble seconds. It’s also equipped with a new lightweight lithium-ion battery, contributing to improved fuel efficiency. Lexus estimates an average fuel consumption of 40.5 mpg.

The UX 300h’s hybrid formula delivers graceful acceleration, measured handling, intelligent visibility and perfect brakes. While it’s not extremely fast, it provides enough power for city driving – you probably wouldn’t win any drag races. The vehicle’s compact length contributes to its agility, making it easier to maneuver and park in tight spaces. And its functionality on the snow? Bright. Many stops were made on slippery surfaces without skidding or losing control, even when the roads were terrible.

The interior is rarely as luxurious as you’d expect from a luxury brand. The engine is small and weak despite the “Sport” mode.

Safety has been enhanced with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, featuring functions like emergency steering assist and intersection vehicle detection with automatic braking. All the usual safety features are here, too, naturally – ABS brakes, stability control, rear-warning alert and more.

Conclusion: This is a lovely little car that exceeded expectations in difficult conditions.
