“8 MINUTES AND 20 SECONDS” IS A NEW INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION INSPIRED BY THE POWER OF CARBON NEUTRAL ENERGY AND THE LATEST LEXUS CONCEPT
PLANO, Texas and MIAMI, Dec. 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Lexus unveiled “8 Minutes and 20 Seconds,” an installation by Dutch solar designer Marjan van Aubel, which can now be seen in the Institute’s sculpture garden. Contemporary Art Exhibition, Miami (ICA Miami). Full of life and color, the striking sun sculpture reinvents the Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst (LF-ZC) car concept into an interactive experience through van Aubel’s use of solar cells. “8 Minutes and 20 Seconds” marks van Aubel’s first public exhibition. I work in Miami and learned through design progression through the spatial design firm and revel in Random Studio.
“8 minutes and 20 seconds,” named after the time it takes for sunlight to reach Earth, uses biological photovoltaic cells (OPVs), third-generation solar cells that are transparent and colored, to translate the LF- ZC on a graph. trendy design, in a real-size representation of the concept car.
“8 Minutes and 20 Seconds” awakens the presence of the audience as it moves and explores other perspectives. Four individual motion sensors bounce the smooth, wavy water off the base of the facility, which represents the car’s EV platform. At unforeseen intervals, the installation comes to life in an ephemeral spectacle: a gentle current flows through it like a crescendo melody, reflecting the dynamics of the moving car and providing sensory insight into the power of driving. As the day progresses, the warm tones of dawn are reflected in the OPV leaves give cooler tones.
Throughout the day, the sculpture harnesses solar energy, extracting it from the OPV leaves. These solar cells store energy in batteries located discreetly at the base of the sculpture. Slowly but surely, this continuous absorption culminates, storing a reserve of sun. power to support the sculpture’s captivating displays and features.
The installation radiates an ambient melody, mixing warm stringed instruments, a comfortable piano and bells that harmonize with the surroundings. Intermittently, the melody is decorated with birdsong and other sound effects. At times, the composition introduces woody notes of bamboo, a sophisticated touch to the bamboo of the original car’s interior, integrating its essence into the listening experience.
“8 Minutes and 20 Seconds,” which runs through Dec. 17, marks Lexus’ second year of partnership with ICA Miami and the brand’s sixth immersive experience at Miami Art.
