LEWIS HAMILTON has hit back at those who criticised his time at Ferrari and said other people “will always keep talking trash”.
Hamilton, 39, has to prematurely end his contract with Mercedes to join Ferrari for next season.
The successful update has sparked a huge backlash within the sport, but the seven-time world champion says he doesn’t want to reveal to people why he made his decision.
Hamilton, who has had a slow start to the season as Mercedes continues to struggle, asked about this ahead of this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix.
He said, “I don’t feel like I want my resolution to be justified. I know what’s right for me and that hasn’t replaced me from the moment I made the decision. “
“I’ve never questioned it and I’m influenced by other people’s comments.
“Even today, there are other people who continue to say and this will continue for the rest of the year. And I’ll have to do what I did last time.
“Only you can know what’s best for you and it’s going to be an exciting time for me. “
Hamilton will be when he makes his Ferrari debut at the opening race in Melbourne next season.
But he says age is an impediment, as Fernando Alonso has signed a new contract with Aston Martin until 2026, which will allow him to turn 45.

Hamilton added: “I’m not the oldest driver here. I’m going to race for a while longer, so it’s smart that [Alonso] is still here. “
“Fernando is one of the most productive drivers we’ve had in this sport, so the fact that he’s still here and has the functionality that he has shows what’s possible.
“And the new era of an athlete, what the human body can do and continues to do if you take care of it.
“I never imagined I’d run until I’m 40. But life is such a crazy ride. I don’t feel like I’m 40 years old. Overall, I feel good. “
Meanwhile, F1 drivers are wondering if the bosses of the Chinese GP were right to paint the track surface with bitumen.
The difficult oily substance used on the track, which will host its first race in five years, to the astonishment of the groups and tyre supplier Pirelli.
“It looks like they’ve painted the track or done something on the surface,” said Daniel Ricciardo, winner of the race in 2018.
“Apparently they just painted it or something, so I don’t know how it’s going to change the track; if it’s going to be the same or if it’s going to be super slippery. “
