Land Rover’s defenders of the TReK off-road festival fail to brake, prompting a recall

The Land Rover Defender is prized for its ruggedness and go-anywhere ability, but it’s not immune to problems, as evidenced by a new recall issued through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Fortunately, the recall does not affect regular customers. Cars.

Instead, the recall concerns 121 examples of the 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 that were traded through Jaguar Land Rover North America for the company’s recent TReK off-road festival. This year’s contest was held at the Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls, Texas. and featured 109 groups of workers from U. S. Land Rover stores. All cars used in the festival got the same modifications.

A recall report shows that JLR North America failed to reinstall the brake calipers in accordance with the published repair procedure. This means that there is a risk of the calipers coming loose, reducing braking functionality and likely causing structural damage to the wheel, while markedly increasing the threat of an accident.

During the TReK incident, one of the vehicle’s brake calipers came loose. The automaker temporarily inspected the vehicle and later decided the defect could be due to other Defender 130s being traded by the incident. The cars were manufactured between January 4, 2023. and May 31, 2023, and thankfully, the braking factor did not lead to any collisions or accidents.

As part of the recall action, JLR will remove the brake calipers from the affected cars and reinstall them following the proper procedure. The repair will be carried out free of charge.

Each of the Defender 130 models used in this year’s TReK occasion is supplied with a special matte black coating and includes all-terrain tires, a remote-controlled electric winch, traditional LED lighting, a hitch-mounted jack lift, and a suspension lift.
