Detectives investigating a huge chimney in a Land Rover showroom say they stopped another arson attack near the site three days earlier.
The Showroom of Guy Salmon Land Rover and Jaguar in Stockport looked more like a “car cemetery” after a chimney on the morning of Thursday, August 6.
Devastating photographs show the burnt wreckage of several luxury cars after the dramatic fire.
No one hurt.
Investigators are treating the garage chimney on Bailey Road like arson.
Detectives: The attack is linked to an arson attempt, which was foiled by personnel near the site on Monday, August 3.
No arrests have been made, a joint investigation is underway with Greater Manchester Fie and Rescue Service.
Officials ask who saw two young men in dark clothes in the domain at the time of the fire.
Detective Inspector Kris Williams of GMP’s Stockport Division said: “This is an abhorrent and threatening attack that has destroyed more than a dozen cars and caused serious disruption to site owners.
“Despite this, the overall damage to the building itself is fortunately superficial and it is fortunate that the attack has not had a greater effect in this regard.
“However, this does not detract from our efforts to make the perpetrators of this attack held accountable and brought to justice.
“We, this attack is related to a similar failed attempt on the same site on the night of Monday, August 3, and I have a clever explanation as to why to suspect that the Americans involved in this incident have data on this.
“I appeal to the public for more data. Were you near the domain on Bailey Road or near Tesco nearby? Have you witnessed any suspicious behavior? If this is the case, I urge you to touch any data that possibly turns out to be vital.”
A Jaguar Land Rover spokesman said: “We were informed of a chimney at the premises of our franchise partner, Guy Salmon’s facility in Stockport overnight.
“The Guy Salmon team is working with the local government to investigate the cause of the chimney and we are awaiting the effects of the investigation. We can verify that several cars have been damaged and that no one was injured in the incident.”
