The historic Italian logo Lancia, which is now part of the Stellantis group, will launch its first electric vehicle.
The vehicle will be a redesigned Ypsilon minicar, and Lancia provided a first look Thursday through teaser photographs. The full reveal is scheduled for next February.
The most recent teaser images come with a photo of the rear, revealing an animated circular taillight design through the taillights of the iconic Lancia Stratos. There’s also a photo of the interior showing a virtual screen and button to operate Lancia’s new infotainment system, dubbed SALA, short for Sound Air Light Augmentation.
Lancia said its upcoming cars will feature two virtual presentations as standard, and at least one of the presentations will feature a fully customizable widget-based system, similar to a smartphone interface. The driver will also be able to access various functions via voice activation, Lancia confirmed.
Teaser of the new Lancia Ypsilon that will debut in February 2024
Previous teaser images show the front of the vehicle adopting a giant T-shaped design for the headlights during daylight hours, and as a component of the interior it bears the inscription “Cassina”. The script is the name of a high-end Italian furniture company whose products served as inspiration for the interior design of the new Lancias. There will also be special editions of the Cassina brand, adding a Lancia Ypsilon Cassina that will be limited to 1,906 units.
Lancia has provided some explicit main points about the new Ypsilon, as well as offering buyers a choice between electric or petrol engines. The car will most likely be a hatchback like the current generation and will use Stellantis’ CMP platform, which is designed for subcompact cars.
Beyond the new Ypsilon, Lancia has confirmed plans to launch a flagship model and a modern Delta in 2026 and 2028, respectively. Both will feature electric power only, with the flagship model confirmed by Lancia to use Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform.
