LACEY, NJ — The owners of Bicycles Unlimited will ride into the sunset after more than 20 years in service. The full-service bike shop management announced they would retire Oct. 1.

“The decision didn’t come easy,” the business wrote on Facebook. “After months of consideration, and in light of the shortage of bicycles, parts and accessories caused by the COVID19 Pandemic, couple with recent health issues, this seems like the appropriate time.”

But that doesn’t necessarily mark the end of Bicycles Unlimited. The store at 407 Lacey Rd. is listed for sale in hopes that an entrepreneur can take over the business.

New Jersey bicycle shops faced unique obstacles during the coronavirus pandemic. Governor Phil Murphy ordered their closure in mid-March before announcing March 24 that they could open for service and repairs only.

Murphy announced in late May that bicycle shops could reopen their showrooms for on-site sales. Bicycles Unlimited reopened May 29 in-person sales.
