KTM is Leaving MotoGP and Suzuki’s Giving Us Another Sportbike Lineup

Today, we have crossed the fog of the hangover that accompanies the end of the year parties with a flood of responsibilities in the industry: 

Let’s sart with Team Orange’s move to save millions by leaving their MotoGP paddock.

KTM is in a state of restructuring, and this recent update has proven the gravity of KTM’s current situation. 

For those of you who have not been aware of the events at the headquarters of the Orange team, here is a very brief list of the recent KTM movements (through a brilliant review by Jamie Elvidge in Advpulse):

The waste involved in the restructuring of a holding company like Pierrer is complex, to say the least, but, like Array, there is one detail of our industry that will save the day: money.  

In order to save funds, a report from DER Standard tells us that KTM will reduce racing service prices. This news begins with a report prepared after an initial meeting between KTM and its creditors at the Ried Im Innkreis regional court; There, Alpenlandischer KreditorRenverband (AKV) would have said the following:

“At the cost of costs, [KTM’s] withdrawal from MotoGP/Moto3/Moto2 is planned. “

In fine form (and  very shortly after the above quote was recorded), KTM made their own statement that they would continue to race for 2025:

“Today marks a day for KTM with the verification of our restructuring procedure. This step ensures our plan in the future and we are proud to verify that motor sport remains a comprehensive component of this restructuring plan.

“KTM is firmly committed to Motorsport. We repeat our declaration for 2025: Let’s race in MotoGP! »

There is a detailed glance at the exit of KTM, how much would the company save if it were after the existing contracts in 2026:

“From the 2026 season, KTM also needs to say goodbye to motor racing, especially the MotoGP, Moto3 and Moto2 road racing series.  

The drivers’ contracts are limited to two years and as KTM management expects “significant public relations damage” in the event of early dismissal, they do not need to leave before 2026; The annual savings would be 46 million euros (euros). »

Apparently, KTM spent 208 million dollars on R&D in 2023, with a “total spending in motor sports of approximately 98. 8 million dollars. ” This figure is the best for a motorcycle brand and, as such, KTM/Pierrer can save a lot of money.

Additional impact of the company’s insolvency proceedings are to include a further reduction in employees from the original early resignations. Between January and February, 391 workers will cut and 83% of the company’s workforce will be reduced to 30-hour weeks, the latter possibly being extended into March.

Gixxer bois beware: Suzuki’s bolstered their labs for a sportbike range debut, and apparently, a GSX-R revival isn’t out of the cards. 

To recap, Suzuki’s popular GSX-R range was dropped in Europe with the Euro5+ compliance update, with the most recent drop being the GSX-R1000.  

In an exclusive interview with MCN, Toshihiro Suzuki, the current president of Suzuki Motor Corporation, shared that the company is working on something big that will likely be showcased at the Milan Expo in the fall.

“We cannot tell you the details, but we believe it is vital to get the Motosport Motos Motes, adapting them to the new regulations. We believe it is vital, because it is Suzuki’s inheritance.

Up until this point, Suzuki was making headlines for exiting MotoGP, rebalancing with an initiative towards sustainability, setting wild company goals for 2050 and beyond, and finding other energy solutions for their bigger motorcycles. 

Now, the resolution to create a new SportBike segment begs the question: where do those models stand against the ocean giants of the SuperSport community? 

If Suzuki’s new lineup joins the competition like Kawasaki’s ZX-6R, Honda’s CBR600RR and even the big new Yamaha R9, we’ll have a treat on par with the GSX-R’s past position in motorcycle society proper.  

Of course, news of a sportbike lineup also brings forward questions of whether or not Suzuki si considering returning to racing; to this, the answer seems a definite “no:”

“The maximum is to bring the motorcycles closer to customers, respecting all the regulations.  

Of course, racing is important, but we prioritize offering motorcycles to our customers, keeping carbon neutrality in mind. »

Everybody loves a neck-and-neck circuit brawl, and bagger racing has certainly brought “bigger is better” to the grid in a way that is fresh, exciting and, at times, downright ludicrous. 

The one from the EU, and according to Lewis Duncan’s article on Crash, gets one for the new season.

Naturally, Xaus is excited about the residual associations and clever fortunes of the series, however, more importantly, he needs everyone to have some time:

Are you very happy to see the Bagger Course European Cup?

A new Netflix show questions the and DIS of AI-assisted living, and the creators called Yamaha to borrow some of their motorcycles for this task.  

Naturally, Yamaha – known for creating crazy concepts like the Motoroid 2, a motorcycle that recognizes its rider – the screen needed anything: a neoteric device to have compatibility with the saturated, futuristic street of the screen.  

According to The US Sun, the bike to represent moto-kind in “Tokyo Override” is a brainchild of two of Yamaha’s iconic models. Merging aesthetics of the YZF-R1 supersport with elements of their VMAX muscle cruiser, Team Blue combined elements of the two models with a good shake of minimalism to solidify into a thinned-out skeleton with glow-in-the-dark wheels. 

Oh, and in keeping with the “Tokyo override” intrigue, it’s meant to work on AI Tech.  

For those of you worried about the grunt box, don’t worry; Yamaha hid the engine of this concept in the cowl of the motorcycle, creating a very sleek silhouette. The cafe racer-style handlebars dip below the bike’s head, while the ‘tank’ handle has been raised to meet the headlight ‘antennas’.

For the record, Yamaha’s “Y/AI” is a full-scale concept model that got some air time at the Motor Expo 2024 in Bangkok, eight days after “Tokyo Override”’s debut on November 21st. 

Here’s what a member of Yamaha’s Design Group has to say about the collaboration for the creation of “Y/AI:” 

“Jin-Ki Kanno” is a philosophy that our company defends, and the word “contrast”, very present in the design, as well as the concept of clearly separating the brave and the inorganic, are reflected in this model.  

We have incorporated the “Jin-Ki Kanno” of the long term and the “contrast” of the long term in the design of this model.

Naturally, a concept like this would not be suitable for the streets of our reasonable markets, but still, an assignment of laughter between Yamaha and Netflix!
