KTM could abandon MotoGP as early as 2026 as part of its self-managed restructuring process, according to a report by Der Standard, an Austrian financial magazine.

Quitting motorsport is one of the features that are part of efforts to reduce debt by more than $3 billion.

According to the Der Standard report, analysis by the Boston Consulting Group predicts a positive future for KTM, with core markets expected to grow by more than ten percent annually, accompanied by KTM’s position as the “undisputed market leader” for off-road bikes and a market share between 40 and 60 percent.

Der Standard reports that KTM’s spending on motorsports amounts to more than $95 million.

KTM has been allowed to manage its own bankruptcy bid, but creditors have reportedly been pressuring it to get rid of some of the more expensive parts affecting its bottom line.

However, KTM continues to express support for motorsports. As recently as December 20, KTM said: “Today marks an important day for KTM with the confirmation of our restructuring proceedings. This milestone secures our plan moving forward, and we are proud to confirm that motorsport remains an integral part of this restructuring plan.

“KTM is firmly committed to motorsport. We reiterate our commitment for 2025: we will continue to compete in MotoGP!

Der Standard reports that KTM riders’ contracts are limited to two years and control experts expect “significant damage to public relations” if they end early.

Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, Maverik Vinales, and Pedro Acosta currently ride for KTM in MotoGP.

KTM made no reference to plans for 2026 or beyond.

Der Standard refers to MotoGP, Moto 2 and Moto 3 racing, but addresses KTM’s long involvement in the American SuperMotocross festival for any of Pierer Mobility’s brands, which include KTM, Husqvarna and GasGasArray.
