As a component of an ongoing pilot project, . KODA AUTO is testing a biodegradable film for the packaging of vehicle factors sent to the Indian plant in Pune. The film protects portions as well as a traditional plastic film. However, there is one key difference: after use, it can be composted. Three to six months later, the film contributes to the floor of Pune’s logistics park. Employees of CKD middle at the main plant of . KODA AUTO put this packaging concept into force, saving around 500 kg of traditional plastic film each month.
David Strnad, Head of Brand Logistics at ‘KODA AUTO’, said, ‘En’ KODA AUTO’, we use a holistic technique to frequently improve our environmental footprint. To do this, we systematically inspire our workers to expand and implement cutting-edge concepts. Compostable packaging for our component deliveries in India is a concrete example. Together with our colleagues at the Pune site, lately we are testing well the use of a corn starch film. This has allowed us to halve the amount of traditional plastic packaging used in the portions delivered to them by offering the same point of protection. In order to decrease the amount of plastic film needed to pack the factors for shipment to Pune, KODA’s logistics branch was in particular looking for biodegradable alternatives.
A compostable film was then checked at the CKD center in Mlad-Boleslav and several shipment samples were checked to see if they met the strict container shipping needs and indeed quality control on arrival. The shipment in Pune showed that the parts showed no signs of damage or signs of corrosion. To assess whether the packaging can be composted as planned, logistics staff built composters on site using recycled materials. In addition to the film, the composters were also filled with Six months later, the film had largely decomposed biologically. KODA AUTO is now proving cutting-edge film prowess for everyday use on a larger scale. A pilot assignment to this effect was launched in July 2020, which in the first place, until June 2021.
Composted packaging is then used in Pune as biological fertilizer for trees in the logistics park, among others. Since March 2019, workers in the logistics branch and visitors have planted a tree in front of the factory gates, transforming an old wasteland into a park.
