As the logo prepares to launch its cheap EV offensive, Kia’s cheapest EV2, which costs around $14,500 (20 million won), has been spotted being tested in a new video. See the first look at the Kia EV2 below.
Kia unveiled three new electric cars at its first annual Electric Vehicle Day in October. Diversity includes the EV3, EV4, and EV5.
The EV5 was unveiled in China in November, priced at around $20,000 (149,800 yuan), as Kia looks to compete with Tesla’s Model Y and Chinese cheap EV makers such as BYD.
Based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform (the same one that underpins the IONIQ 5), Kia’s EV5 is available with a CLTC range of up to 447 miles (720 km). In Australia, the EV5 starts at around $46,000 (AUS 70,000).
Next on the list is the Kia EV3. Kia’s EV3 inherits the generation and design of its three-row EV9 in a smaller, larger package.
The EV3 is expected to debut this summer, with a sporty GT lineup set to launch in the fall. We’ve noticed EV3 prototypes in the wild several times as they prepare to show their faces (see videos here).
It will be about the length of the Volvo EX30 or Hyundai Kona EV, approximately 170″ long, 72″ wide and 62″ high. The EV3 is expected to start at around $30,000.
After that, Kia will launch the EV4. The EV4 is Kia’s edition of a entry-level electric sedan with design and silhouette.
Kia calls the EV4 “an all-new type of sedan that’s a symbol of innovation” of the direction the logo is taking. Its starting price will be around $35,000.
Kia also revealed at its EV Day that it will launch an even smaller and less expensive EV2 electric SUV.
Speaking to Autocar, Kia CEO Ho-Sung Song said electric cars are “very important” to the brand’s future.
The Kia CEO added that the EV2 is a “very unique and vital model” in key markets such as Europe. Given Kia’s preference for SUVs, the EV2 is expected to come with a crossover or SUV-type design rather than a sedan.
Kia’s EV2 has been spotted being tested in the wild, while a new video from ShortsCar gives us a broader look at what we can expect from the entry-level EV.
As the EV2 passes by, you can see its square SUV shape, similar to that of the EV3 and EV5. The design is obviously in line with Kia’s new theme. Despite this, the EV2 is expected to be even smaller and more affordable.
The video indicates that the domestic compact electric SUV will cost $14,500 (20 million won). If that’s the case, it may simply knock the Kia Ray EV out of the range.
Since Chinese corporations will stay out of the U. S. market, I think Hyundai/Kia will grab a huge percentage of the cheap EV sector in the U. S.
Like the revamped lineup of budget electric vehicles, the EV2 is expected to match Kia’s new “Opposites United” design. You can expect to see things like Kia’s new “Tiger Face” grille.
Like the EV3, the E2 is expected to get a sporty GT version. Production is expected to begin at Kia’s plant in Slovakia in 2025.
The 4 new models belong to Kia’s wide range of electric vehicles, priced between $20,000 and $80,000.
The detection of Kia’s EV2 comes as several automakers race to introduce more electric cars. Nissan plans to introduce the Micra EV, its new budget electric vehicle, later this year. Ford, Volkswagen, Rivian, Hyundai, and others plan to launch lower-cost electric cars in the coming years.
