Kia MVP Ladder: Joel Embiid moves up one spot as All-Star Draft awaits

In a live televised pregame segment, the NBA All-Star Draft begins Sunday just before kickoff for the first time, and it’s worth wondering how well the best of the Kia MVP Ladder race will be represented once the captains start opting in. For beginners.

Aside from the injured (Kevin Durant and probably Giannis Antetokounmpo) and Sixers goalie James Harden, who won 10 consecutive All-Star selections through 2023, each and every player included in today’s edition is expected to play in the NBA All. -Star Game with Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard (Starry 3-Point Contest) doing additional paintings at State Farm All-Star Saturday Night events. as well as Antetokounmpo (Kia Skills Challenge) as long as you have smart enough health.

(If you’re not familiar, here’s a brief explanation of how the All-Star Draft works. )

The effects of the vote decided the captains of each of the conferences. Thus, LeBron James leads the Western Conference, while Antetokounmpo represents the Eastern Conference. As the overall voting leader in the voting process, James won the first pick in the All-Star Draft.

From there, the captains take turns settling into the All-Star field.

First, James and Antetokounmpo were expected to take over the initial All-Star organization, before moving to the reserve organization. But TNT’s Ernie Johnson revealed Thursday on “Inside the NBA” that the captains would first decide on reserves before deciding between the 8 starters.

As one of the captains, Antetokounmpo represents the first player of the five most sensible Kia Race to be eliminated from the table. But will Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Luka Doncic and Tatum make it past the next 4 selections?

Uncertain, given the private tastes, rivalries, loyalties and friendships maintained through the captains. Also, the prestige of one of the MVP’s favorites probably has nothing to do with the minds of two of the most productive at playing the game. .

But it’s fun to look forward to how the NBA All-Star Draft might fall now that we’re focused on the fun forward in Salt Lake City and the rigors of an ultra-competitive season that will only be accentuated as players like Durant. Stephen Curry and Zion Williamson are back in shape after running injuries.

After this edition of Kia Race to the MVP Ladder, we’ll take a break and return on March 3, with a week-long pattern of games to take from the post-All-Star break.

Jokic and Antetokounmpo remain stable at No. 1 and No. 2, while Embiid sneaks into 3rd place after Tatum, who climbs to No. 4. Doncic remains fifth.

Season stats: 24. 7 dpi, 11. 5 rpg, 10. 1 apg

He delivered his 21st triple-double of the season in the league’s best moment to send Denver halftime on a three-game winning streak with the NBA’s home record (27-4) following Wednesday’s 118-109 win over the Dallas Mavericks. Just 4 days earlier, Jokic had recorded his seventh triple-double with 30 or more problems and over 15 rebounds, joining Oscar Robertson and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players to accomplish the feat repeatedly. The reigning two-time MVP followed with 27 problems, 12 rebounds and 8 assists as he shot 12 of 14 in an away win over Miami. The Nuggets are 21-0 this season when Jokic recorded a triple-double and, going back to last season, have won 25 outright. in the conditions of some.

2. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

Last week’s ranking: No. 2

Season stats: 31. 8 dpi, 12. 2 rpg, 5. 4 apg

Antetokounmpo’s prestige for the All-Star Game is in doubt after the two-time MVP sprained his wrist in the second quarter of Thursday’s win over the Chicago Bulls. Coach Mike Budenholzer said Antetokounmpo had an X-ray of the wake that came out clean. But it’s unclear if the 28-year-old will participate in the Salt Lake City events. At a breakneck pace, Antetokounmpo had compiled at least 33 issues in nine of Milwaukee’s last 11 games while hitting 10 or more lanes in nine starts. Before suffering his injury, Antetokounmpo fainted 3 cents to build his overall career at 3,274, which broke Paul Pressey’s franchise record (3,272).

3. Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers

Last week’s ranking: No. 4

Season stats: 33. 1 dpi, 10. 2 rpg, 4. 1 apg

Embiid and the Sixers bounced back from a two-game slip with four straight wins. larger than span. Philadelphia built up a 28-point lead in the first half of Wednesday’s win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, but Embiid scored 17 of his team’s 29 points in the current part after making history five minutes at the festival with a successful 10,000 career problems. The 28-year-old achieved the final milestone in 373 games, beating Allen Iverson in the fewest contests needed to succeed in 10,000 problems in Sixers history. However, a little depressed, Embiid suffers from persistent pain in his left foot and his prestige for the All-Star Game are unknown.

4. Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics

Last week’s ranking: No. 3

Season stats: 30. 6 dpi, 8. 6 rpg, 4. 5 apg

Tatum missed just his fourth game in Tuesday’s loss to Milwaukee on Tuesday due to a non-COVID illness. He then returned with a vengeance, lighting up Detroit in 24 of its 38 problems in the third quarter of a 127-109 victory on Wednesday. that sent Boston into the All-Star break with five wins in its last six games. The stellar role also came at the right time, given that Tatum had connected 33. 3% or less from the court in three of his last five appearances (in addition to hitting only 7 of 23 depth in his last 3 games). In the win over the Pistons, Tatum drilled 6 of 10 from 3-point range.

5. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Last week’s ranking: No. 5

Season stats: 33. 3 dpi, 8. 8 rpg, 8. 1 apg

A great deal of deference holds the Mavericks back at this point as Doncic and new addition Kyrie Irving work to figure out how to coexist. The Mavs fell in Sacramento before suffering Tuesday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Doncic racked up decent numbers in those two games, adding a 33-point, 12-rebound feature against the Timberwolves. Denver and Doncic maintained the numbers with 37 problems (adding 17 in the first quarter), 4 rebounds and nine assists. However, the Mavs lost their third direct start before the All-Star Game and have a 3–3 record in their last six games.
