Jaguar Land Rover has appointed the former boss of Renault as its new chief executive.

The West Midlands-based carmaker announced yesterday that Thierry Bolloré, 57, sacked nine months ago by Renault, is to take over as chief executive of the group from Ralf Speth, 64, who is stepping back to the role of executive vice-chairman.

Bolloré, a Frenchman, expelled from Renault in the wake of the Carlos Ghosn scandal. Mr Bolloré rose to Renault’s CEO position after Mr. Ghosn, the head of Renault and Nissan’s shareholder alliance, was arrested in Japan on fraud charges. Mr. Ghosn, 66, later smuggled him out of Japan and is still fugitive from justice.
