JLR is looking to use recycled content in the foam of the seat to reduce the environment, has an effect on its long -term electric cars.
The automaker announced in November that it’s working with chemical company Dow and seat specialist Adient to recycle polyurethane seat foam, a difficult task that means most of the material usually ends up in landfills, according to JLR. The automaker aims to start testing recycled seat foam in pre-production vehicles later this year.
The recycled foam will be a detail of a “circular seat” made of fabrics that can be gently recycled, which is estimated to twice carbon dioxide emissions related to the production of existing seats, according to JLR.

A higher attachment on the reuse of fabrics than rejecting them, the foundation of what’s called “the circular economy” is in the middle of a committed JLR study lab. Researchers in this lab have found that a primary impediment to reuse is the difficulty of separating individual fabrics when disassembling a car, either because of the way it is attached to each, or because of combined use in some components.
In addition to the seats, other spaces where Jaguar is looking for are the front bumper foam, where JLR is testing a new formulas with a small number of polymers for less difficult recycling and aluminum frame panels. In the last case, JLR worked with suppliers to reuse the remains of the printing procedure in new panels.

JLR isn’t the only automaker to think this way. More than a decade ago, Ford began incorporating renewable fabrics, adding recycled denim, into forged insulation for its vehicles. In 2021, BMW showed off a concept car founded on the concept of a concept of a concept of a concept of a Circular Economy concept, which according to the automaker, made one hundred percent recycled fabrics and itself one hundred percent recyclable.
