On the show, there will be an all-electric grand tourer, billed as a planned competitor to the Porsche Taycan. Rumor has it that this will be followed about a year ago by an SUV that will go head-to-head with the Bentley Bentayga, as well as an as-yet-unnamed giant sedan. The latter will have the kind of hubris infused into the big four-door Jags of years past, adding trendy efforts like the XF, but also old-school thugs like the Mark X 420G of the late ’60s.
All will be built on the brand’s JEA platform, a set of building blocks designed for electric vehicles. The new GT car is expected to offer approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles) of range; And it will be available in variants capable of accelerating to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 4 seconds, thanks in part to all-wheel drive.
As it turns out, the company is making sure the transition goes smoothly. “Most of our products will be discontinued in June, but they will be on sale for much longer,” said Joe Eberhardt, executive director of JLR in North America. he said in an interview with Road magazine.
Like other logos, Jaguar is leveraging its EV switch to move its logo even higher. Currently in this country, the popular F-Pace crossover starts at $71,750, but it’s not hard to take it into six-figure territory; while the E-Pace (which is rarely very electric, despite its name) is in the $60,000 range. Meanwhile, the sleek F-Type sports car, which will be released soon, costs $120,000 each piece, and the Tony XF sedan calls for at least 70 giants.
You can bet that EVs will be in another category, especially if you’re talking about cars like the Taycan and Bentayga at the same time.
